Gajasimha Jamdani Saree

This brick red begins with two different colours on the loom.

A 100-count handspun cotton warp dyed with madder meets a 200-count cotton weft dyed with sappanwood. Together, they create a beautifully layered brick-red ground. Upon it appears the Gajasimha: a lion standing on an elephant, its striking arrangement recalling the sculptural forms that inspired the collection. Interpreted through Jamdani’s supplementary extra-weft technique, the motif brings the relationship between the two creatures into focus, carrying an architectural composition into the movement of cloth.
